Diplo is a sculptural 3D-printed wall lamp designed to bring soft light and an architectural presence to any space.

Composed of two bidirectional shades, it diffuses a halo of light that delicately highlights its organic reliefs and creates a subtle play of light and shadow.

Its design is inspired by the grooved brain coral (Diploria labyrinthiformis), from which it takes its sinuous, repetitive grooves. Its lines also evoke the paper cut-outs of Henri Matisse, who was deeply attached to the Mediterranean landscapes of the French Riviera.

Made in Marseille from a cornstarch-based bioplastic, tinted with various recycled natural residues. Depending on the chosen finish, the material may contain upcycled scallop shells, mussel shells, or coffee grounds, giving each piece a unique color and texture.

Materials & colors

  • PLA made from corn and wheat starch and recycled organic or mineral residues.
  • The two removable lampshades are made from PLA based on recycled scallop shells from the re-use sector of catering in Normandy.

The central base is available in 5 colours:

  • Green: PLA based on beets, minerals and pigments.
  • Terracotta: PLA based on recycled crushed bricks.
  • Black: PLA based on recycled crushed slate.
  • Beige: PLA based on recycled mussel shells.
  • Brown: PLA based on coffee grounds.

As this is a biomaterial wall lamp, it is sensitive to heat.

  • Only use LED bulbs.
  • Avoid direct heat sources.
  • Clean with a soft, dry cloth to preserve its natural texture.

Inspiration

Diplo draws its inspiration from the organic forms of the marine world.

Its reliefs evoke brain coral (Diploria labyrinthiformis), whose natural grooves create a repetitive and sculptural pattern. Its lines also recall the seaweed depicted in the works of Henri Matisse, an artist profoundly influenced by the Mediterranean landscapes of the French Riviera.

At the intersection of architectural element and lighting fixture, Diplo transforms light into matter.
